William Frederick Towns, 83, of Westminster, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Broadmoor Assisting Living in Hagerstown.

Born Oct. 11, 1929, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Elmer Towns and Ruth Rogers Towns. He was the husband of Carmen Aida Towns, his wife of 59 years, who died Feb. 25, 2012.

He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict. He received many commendations for this work with the military. Before retiring, he worked at Allied Signal and Western Electric.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Alexis Lin McKenzie, of Mount Airy; son and daughter-in-law Frederick K. and Eve Towns, of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; grandchildren Ryan and Timothy Zukas, William, Brooke and Chloe Towns; and great-grandchildren Canaan and Keegan Zukas.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster. Interment will be in Meadow Branch Cemetery.
