William G. "Jerry" Zinkand, 80, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born Aug. 26, 1932, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Zinkand. He was the husband of Joan A. Zinkand, his wife of 39 years.

He had served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a print shop manager for the Frederick News Post, where he retired in 1998.

He was a previous member of the Knights of Columbus and was currently a member of the American Legion and VFW in Westminster. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, the beach, bowling and watching the Orioles and Ravens.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and sons-in-law Sharon V. and Don Yon, of Melfa, Va., Lisa Zinkand, of Stoney Beach, and Michele and John Powell, of Finksburg; a son, William G. Zinkand Jr., of Stoney Beach; brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Ann Zinkand, of Baltimore; a sister-in-law, June Zinkand, of Middle River; grandchildren Tori Winterling and husband Joseph, of Owings Mills, Sarah Hauer and husband William, of Parkville, Kelly Yon, of Taneytown, Kaitlyn Powell, of Sykesville and Joshua Powell, of Finksburg; and great-grandchildren Taylor and Haley Winterling, and Brianna and Katie Strieb.

He was predeceased by a brother, James Zinkand.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Harmony Grove Church Cemetery in Sykesville.
