William Joseph "Bill" Ritz, 78, of Sykesville, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.

Born Dec. 5, 1933, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John and Norine C. Kolb Ritz Carnes. He was the husband of Barbara C. Leister Ritz.

He had been an instrument machinist for many years. He had worked for the former Research Support Instruments in Cockeysville.

He enjoyed gardening, camping and in general, the outdoors. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community in Eldersburg.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law Nicholas W. and Karen Ritz, of Seven Valleys, Pa., Eric J. and Penny Ritz, of Sykesville, and David S. and Sabrina Ritz, of Perry Hall; daughters and sons-in-law Kimberly A. Ritz, of Damascus, Colleen A. and Ed Becker, of Germantown Hill, Ill., and Suzanne M. Anania and fiance Jim Atwell, of Hampstead; a brother, Edward Ritz, of Edgewater; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by siblings Donald and Jack Ritz, and Noreen Wigard.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
