William K. Wells, 95 of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach. Born July 20, 1921 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was raised in Baltimore, MD, the oldest son of Raymond and Carrie Wells. He is survived by beloved wife of 41 years, Alice Wells. Bill was a proud graduate of Catonsville H.S. class of 1938. Three years later, the day after Pearl Harbor, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served honorably as a supply officer both stateside and overseas, until he was discharged in 1946. After the war he returned to work at "Monkey Wards" and then the U.S. Post Office. To make ends meet, because he started a family, he worked at local racetracks in his off hours. In the 50's and 60's he was employed at several wholesale plumbing and heating supply firms. In the 70's and 80's he owned and operated two highway bridge supply businesses, Camwell and Wilton Corp. He retired in 1984, living in the Baltimore area during the summers and in Ocean City, MD and Florida in the winters. He was a great story teller who loved to discuss the Depression, WW II, family history, the Boy Scouts, and all his work experiences. Since his youth, Bill was an avid stamp collector and made many commemorative envelopes including ones for the 150th anniversary of Carroll County Maryland in 1987; a special one which was placed in their time capsule. Additional survivors are sons, and daughter-in-laws, Paul and Sheila Wells of Hanover, PA, Kenneth and Pat Wells of Jarrettsville, MD, and John and Helen Dettmer of Harpers Ferry, W. VA. as well as two grandchildren. He was preceded by his younger brother, Lucian Wells. An earlier marriage to Janet Wells ended in divorce. Bill decided in 1972 to will his body to science as a parting gift to his fellow man. Therefore no services will be held. However, contributions is his memory may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Manchester, MD which he joined in 1963 and where he sang in the choir and was church superintendent. Arrangements are under the care of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.
