William Elfhage LaPlante 94 of Westminster died Friday November 7, 2014 at Brightview Westminster Ridge. Born August 21,1920 in Baltimore he was the son of the late William and Gladys LaPlante. He was the husband of Mary Jane White LaPlante his wife of 64 years who died in 2011. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II on the USS Menkar and the USS Belfast. He also served in the Air Force Reserve. He worked for Monumental Insurance until retirement, he also was a pilot and electrician. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Piney Branch Golf Club and The Westminster Elks. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Colts and a member of the Clots Coral. He enjoyed flying, playing golf and attending the annual reunions of the crew of the USS Belfast. Later in life he watched the Ravens and Orioles on TV and liked listening to Big Band music. He is survived by friends Mary and Bill Paul and Robin Nesbitt. He was predeceased by a sister Ellen LaPlante. He donated his body to the Anatomy Board of Maryland. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
