William Merrill Dittrich, 79, of Harrington, Del., died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Carroll Home Care and Hospice in Westminster.

Born May 25, 1933, in Wilkinsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late James Huey Dittrich and Elizabeth Richardson Dittrich. He was the husband of Betty Ann Roe Dittrich, of Finksburg, who he married in 1957.

He was raised in Baltimore, and enlisted in the Army in the early 1950s. After an honorable discharge he returned home and worked at various jobs before going to work for DuPont as a millwright in 1960.

He and his wife lived in New Jersey and Newark, Del., for a period before moving to Crumpton, and then most recently to Harrington.

He enjoyed going to Dixon's Furniture Auction, refinishing furniture and caning furniture.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Debbie McConnell and husband Jon, of Finksburg, and Kimberly Wood and husband Thomas, of Millington; son William Dittrich and wife Cyndi Glauner, of Mesa, Ariz.; brothers James Dittrich, of Pasadena, and Kenneth Dittrich, of Taylors Island; a sister, Mary Jane McCann, of Glen Burnie; and grandchildren Kyle and Matt Wood.

He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Uppecue.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service, noon Wednesday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St., Millington. Interment will be held in Sudlersville Cemetery in Sudlersville.
