William Russell "Buck" Hale, 86, of Manchester, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the York Hospital in York, Pa.

Born Dec. 6, 1926, in Greenmount, he was the son of the late Russell and Ethel Frederick Hale. He was the husband of the late Virginia "Ginny" Mays Hale.

He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired welder for the former Snyder's Body Shop in Greenmount. He was an avid woodworker, NASCAR fan and enjoyed being with family.

Surviving are a daughter, Debra Mays, of Manchester; grandsons William Stem and wife Cynthia, of Felton, and Michael Stem and wife Crystal, of Hanover, Pa.; and five grandchildren. 

He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Donald Albert Mays; and siblings Raymond Hale, Helen Baker and Evelyn Holbrook.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Scott Shumaker officiating. Interment will be at the New Lutheran Cemetery in Manchester.
