William Starrett Esworthy, Sr., 82, of Owings Mills, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Seasons Hospice in Randallstown.

Born March 8, 1931, in Frederick, he was the son of the late William B. Esworthy and Helen E. Horton Esworthy. He was the husband of Mary "Sissy" Stierhoff Esworthy, his wife of 61 years.

He served honorably with the Navy in the Korean War. After leaving the Navy, he was a self-employed plumber.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son William S. "Jay" Esworthy Jr. and wife Darcy; daughters Dawn Esworthy and Wendy Good; grandchildren Cassie Coughlin, Starrett Esworthy III, Airlia Lotz, Britni Esworthy and Courtney Esworthy Good; great-grandchildren Sloane Coughlin, Johnnie Esworthy and Raven Coughlin; brothers James and Bernard Esworthy; and sisters Geraldine, Linda and Daisy Esworthy.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Tim Webster officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
