William Smith Snyder, 91, of Westminster, formerly of Laurel, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center.

Born Sept. 30, 1921, in Bryansville, Pa., he was the son of the late Carl and Florence Emig Snyder. He was the husband of Charlotte Pennington Snyder, who he married June 5, 1943, and died in November 2010.

He was a general supervisor for District Operations for Baltimore Gas and Electric and retired in 1983. He was a graduate of Delta High School in Pennsylvania and a graduate of the Baltimore College of Commerce, now University of Baltimore.

After graduating he became a certified public accountant. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served with the 10th Armored Division and was awarded the Bronze Star medal. Following the war he returned to Baltimore Gas and Electric, and rose through the ranks to the office he held at retirement.

He joined the Laurel Lions Club in 1954 and was made a life member of Lions International in 1987. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Westminster Lions Club.

Among his community activities, he was a life member of Prince George's County Chamber of Commerce, charter member of Slate Ridge American Legion Post 182 in Whiteford, and was ordained an elder in the Presbyterian Church in 1966. He also volunteered at the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. and maintained a greenhouse at his home in Laurel.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-Law William J. and Nancy Snyder, of Annapolis; granddaughter and husband Meghan and Joe Capobianco, of Mount Laurel, N.J.; a sister, Ruth Emma Scarborough, of York, Pa.; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Capobianco, of Mount Laurel.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. June 15 at Carroll Lutheran Village, Krug Chapel, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, with the Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz and the Rev. Walt Peters officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Slate Ridge Cemetery in Delta, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, attn: Student Scholarship Fund, Westminster, MD 21158.
