William S. "Bill" "Pop" Whitecotton, Jr., 89, of Gettysburg, and formerly of Westminster passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at his home. Bill was born on January 6, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland and was the son of the late William S., Sr. and Elizebeth (Thompson) Whitecotton. He was the loving husband for 58 years to the late Doris May Whitecotton, who predeceased him in 2003. Bill was a Merchant Marine. He was employed for C & P Telephone as a manager of fleet services. During his retirement he became co-owner with his son, Steve, of the Donut World in Westminster. Bill's family was his life. In his younger years he enjoyed crabbing with his sons on the Eastern Shore, camping in the mountains of West Virginia, and deer hunting. Surviving Bill are children and spouses William J. and Debra Whitecotton of Lakeland, FL, Debra L. and Steve Wellen of Lakeland, FL, Keith M. and Silvia Whitecotton of Ellicott City, MD, Steve R. and Denise Whitecotton of Finksburg, Darlene C. and Mike Stonesifer of Gettysburg, PA; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces and 13 nephews. He was predeceased by his son Kenneth R. Whitecotton; grandson Steven Wellen; and siblings Roy Whitecotton, Bettie Lou Hillary, and Georgia Brooks. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lorraine Park.
