Mr. Wm. Howard Spurrier, 65, of Union Bridge, died Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster, after a brief illness. Born February 15, 1950 in Jackson, Miss., he was the son of Patricia Girod Spurrier of Union Bridge and the late William Harry Spurrier Jr. Mr. Spurrier retired from Springfield Hospital Center and later from Food Lion of Walkersville, having worked in the produce department. He was a member of the Johnsville United Methodist Church; the Johnsville Ruritan Club, currently serving as president; the Sons of American Legion with Glenn W. Eyler Post #282 of the American Legion in Woodsboro, serving as the 1st Vice Commander of the Western Maryland district and was a life member of the Sons of American Legion in Sykesville. He enjoyed football, baseball and horseracing. In addition to his mother he is survived by a brother, F. Andrew Spurrier of Union Bridge; a sister, Amelia S. Lentzner of Union Bridge; 2 nieces, Jennifer and Jacqlynn and 2 great nieces, Anna and Emma, all of Union Bridge. The family will receive friends at the Johnsville United Methodist Church, 11106 Green Valley Rd., on Saturday, October 10, from noon until time of memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be church pastor, Rev. Margaret Moon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of Johnsville Ruritan Club, c/o Robert L. Grossnickle, 11015 Keymar Rd., Woodsboro, MD 21798 or to the Scholarship Fund of Sons of American Legion, c/o Dwight Reynolds, 101 W. Elizabeth St., Woodsboro, MD 21798.
