William Carl Burke Sr., 75, of Mount Airy, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster. Born May 3, 1934, in Mount Airy, he was the son of the late John William and Nettie Virginia Wright Burke. He had been a self-employed tile setter for many years. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during the Korean War. He enjoyed baseball, football, and telling jokes. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law William C. Jr. and Laura Burke, of Westminster; daughters and son-in-law Donna and Brian Carroll, and Paula Burke, all of Manchester, and Dawn "Vickie" Brooks and fiancé Brian Hill, of Westminster; sisters Doris Hart, Rose Cecil, and Eileen Johnson; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, MaryLee Thompson; and a former wife, Iva Burke Mann. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.
