Howard Dee Atwood, 87, of Ellisburg, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at Liberty Care Center.

Born Nov. 15, 1928, in Clementsville, he was the son of the late Chester and Retha Sweden Atwood.

He worked as a logger and timber dealer for more than 40 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a Mason and a member of Rocky Ford Lodge 765. He served as a magistrate in Casey County from 1970-1978.

Dee was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nannie Lee Ellis Atwood; a son, Howard Randall Atwood; two brothers, Earl and Marvin Atwood; a sister, Dorothy Allen; and three infant siblings.

He is survived by two daughters, Marlene Atwood of Ellisburg and Marleta Atwood of Liberty; two sons, Marty (Lisa) Atwood of Liberty and Monty (Jamie) Atwood of Stanford; two brothers, Shearl Atwood and Don (Brenda) Atwood, both of Liberty; four sisters, Helen Clark of Indiana, Hazel Sroczynski of Dunnville, Phyllis (Jerry) Black of Campbellsville and Ruby (Mack) Cox of Elkhorn; five grandchildren, Jessica (Todd) Simpson, Jared (Krista) Atwood, Marisa Atwood, Joel (Alyssa) High and Morgan High; and seven great-grandchildren, Jayden Anderson, Conner Anderson, Sophia Miller, Chloe Simpson, Declan Atwood, Layken High and Eden High.

The funeral was Monday at Westside Community United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bob Coppings with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

Visitation and a Masonic service was held at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Hustionville.

Pallbearers were Brian Black, Brent Atwood, Bill Sallee, Dean Atwood, Ronnie Allen and James Peyton. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Sam Haddad, Care team members at Liberty Care Center, Tara Kleffman-Vanoy and members of Rocky Ford Lodge 765.
