James Evan Peavey, age 89, a resident of Liberty, passed on to be with the Lord Sept. 19, 2012. He was born on Feb. 6, 1923 in Casey County to the late Fred Harrison Peavey Sr. and Gladys Vera Burchell Peavey. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster recipient and other recognition. He studied at the University of Louisville and Lindsey Wilson College. He was a farmer, school teacher and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. A member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He also served on the Casey County School Board. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Neoma Phillips Peavey of Liberty; two sons, Glenn E. Peavey (and Kristy) and John P. Peavey (and Jennifer); a daughter, Melanie A. Williams (and Chuck); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Harrison Peavey Jr. of Summerville, S.C. and Ralph Edward Peavey (and Patty) of Fair Play, Mo.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Sept. 24 at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with internment in Peavey Cemetery. Bartle Funeral Home Liberty was in charge of arrangements. www.bartlefuneralhome.com.
