James Simpson Sr.


James L. Simpson Sr. of Pittsboro, N.C. died at The Laurels on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012. He was 72. Born in Lincoln County on Nov.12, 1939 he was the son of the late Jesse James Simpson and Dorothy Tapscott. He was a U.S. Marine, he honorably served his country in Korea and was with the 1st Marine Corps Strike in Vietnam. Survivors include three sons, James L. Simpson Jr. and Jeffrey L. Simpson, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and Johnny L. Simpson Sr., of Gonzales, La.; three daughters, Joanna S. Guido, of Pittsboro, N.C., Judith S. Carter of Virginia Beach, Va. and Jacqueline S. Erbach, of Manhattan, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at Tapscott Cemetery with military funeral honors by the Casey County Funeral Squad and the U.S. Marines Honor Guard. There will be no visitation. McKinney-Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
