Millie (Salyers) Caldwell

Mrs. Millie Salyers Caldwell, 95, of Yosemite, the widow of Chester Arthur Caldwell, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset.

She was born May 17, 1922, in Casey County, daughter of the late George Wesley Salyers and Mary Ballengar Salyers. Millie was of the Christian faith and a member of the Mount Olive Christian Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed the beauty of growing flowers, but her top priority was spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents and her husband, Chester Caldwell, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Vernon Caldwell; a daughter, Mary Edith Smith; four brothers, Hobert Salyers, Oakley Salyers, Terrell Salyers and Kenneth Salyers; and two sisters, Montie Elliott and Maudie Foley.

Millie leaves behind to cherish her precious memories four sons, Melvin Junior Caldwell, Timmy Caldwell, Jimmy Lee Caldwell and Paul Edward Caldwell; three daughters; Dorthy Lavern Foley, Louise Walls and Deva Swartz; and six generations of grandchildren, 29 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and several close friends.

The funeral was Saturday, July 15, in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset with Melvin Caldwell and Timmy Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in Salyers Cemetery in Casey County.

The family requests that donations be made to the Millie Salyers Caldwell Memorial Fund in care of Southern Oaks Funeral Home, 2110 W. Highway 914, Somerset, KY 42503.
