Mrs. Carolyn Elliott New, 70, of Somerset, widow of Brother J.S. New, suddenly passed from this life on Thursday, Aug, 24, 2017, in Somerset.

She was born Nov. 11, 1946, in Casey County, daughter of the late Charles Elliott and Ruth Maurine Phelps Elliott. She was of the Baptist faith and worked diligently in the establishment of the Denham Street Baptist with her husband. Carolyn was a charter member of the church and took pride in serving her Lord as she continued her support of the church and the new pastor. She had a genuine passion for the upkeep of the church and served faithfully as the church custodian.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family as well as walking in her neighborhood. Her radiant smile and gallant spirit will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by husbands; Bob Padgett and Pastor J.S. New; a brother; Danny Elliott; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Dick Elliott; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa New.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories a son, Jonathan and (Ell) New of Slate Branch community; a daughter, Barbara Padgett of Somerset; and two stepsons, Delane New of LaGrange and Richard and (Debbie) New of Oak Hill community; three brothers, Freddie Elliott, Randall Elliott of Yosemite and Timothy Elliott of Somerset; two sisters, Billie Elliott and Donna (Bruce) Meece, all of Somerset; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Kimberly) Emerson, Jerrod (Telvis) Emerson, Joshua D. New, Kloey Strong and Ayla Strong: six great-grandchildren, Tracey Emerson, Lilly New, Tariel Emerson, Kayce Jane Evans, Taylor Wayne Price and Kallie Emerson; a son-in-law, Russell Emerson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral for Mrs. New was Monday, Aug. 28, at Denham Street Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Griffith, Brother Bruce Conley, Brother Jessie McCoy, Brother Melvin Sisson and Jerry Frye officiating.

The Pallbearers were Chris Meece, Danny Thomas Stevens, Freddie Lee Elliott, Kelvin Elliott, Randy Elliott and Scott Elliott.
