Sherman Lowell Sowers, 81, long-time resident of Casey and Lincoln counties, passed unexpectedly Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Hospital in Danville.

Born on Jan. 13, 1936, in Casey County, he was the son of the late William Ed and Nedie P. Jones Sowers.
Sherman was a graduate of Campbellsville University, a teacher for many years in the Casey County School System, retiring in 1993. He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and a member of Grove Ridge Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming and cruising around the country side in his old truck.

Sherman leaves behind a brother, J.C. Sowers (Gladys) of Highland; a sister, Reba I. Robertson (William) of Waynesburg; 10 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and -nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George S. Sowers and William G. Sowers; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Sowers.

The funeral is at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home in Waynesburg with Brothers Kevin Pittman and Mike McArter officiating. Burial follows in Wall Cemetery.

Visitation is from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Jeff Sowers, Daniel Robertson, Don Sowers, Tim Childers, Randy Watts, Junior Rayborn, Robbie McQueen and Mike McQueen.
