Vernon O. Lawhorn of Somerset passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Unit. He was 89. Born in Yosemite on Aug. 9, 1924, he was the son of the late Meace Estes Farmer and Beckham Lawhorn. He was a World War II veteran in the 4025th Signal Corp, where he was awarded the American Theater and Philippines Liberation Ribbons, three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct and World War II Victory Medals and the Meritorious Unit Award. Vernon was an excellent golfer, an avid fisherman who enjoyed all water sports. He is survived by his present wife, Olive Jeanette Edwards Williamson, whom he married on Oct. 12, 2010 in Gatlinburg, Tenn.; and three step-daughters, Melodye (and Bill) Burkett, Wendi (and Gary) Conley and Lorri (and Troy) Horn, three nieces, Cathy (and Ken) Renner, Patty Romaine and Vickie (and Ken) Fightmaster, two brothers-in-law, Duel (and Shirley) Apple and Delbert (and Lucy) Apple; and eight step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Charline Apple; and four brothers, William, Robert, Joseph and Leon Lawhorn. A funeral service was held Dec. 28 at Hodapp Funeral Home in Cincinnati, Ohio with Rev. Bryan Price officiating. Burial was in Arlington Memorial Cemetery. Morris and Hislope Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
