I met Bruce as a fellow Spanish instructor at Penn State, but also became friends with him. I knew that Bruce invested everything of himself in his teaching, which he loved. He was a man of quite dignity, and a man who demonstrated compassion for others in many ways. I think he made a difference in people's lives, and I am grateful that I came to know him, but saddened at his leaving us behind at such a young age. My condolences to his family.

I had Mr. Herold for 4 years while attending Bald Eagle High School. He always made Spanish classes fun and interesting. May he be at peace now and his family know that he is at home with the Lord and watching over all of you .

Mr. Herold was my Spanish Teacher at Bald Eagle Area High School from 1976 to 1982. But he was more than that. Most teachers come and go in your life. Mr. Herold was there with me for 6 years. He taught me a lot about being not only a good student, but a good person too. He was an inspiration to many. He was a man of quiet dignity and great compassion. I miss him very much.

Bruce was my big brother. Growing up we battled like most kids did but I was always so proud of him. He excelled and pushed himself - be it sports, academics or teaching. Bruce always worked so hard year after year to be a better teacher for his students. He wanted so much for them to learn and be inspired.
I'm so very grateful I was able to tell him recently just how proud of him I have always been.
I Love You Bruce, Joan

My most heart felt thoughts to both Laura and Bruce and Aunt Mary. It is especailly nice to read entries from his students, a great teachter can make a great impact. I personally will miss beating him in a card game and listening to him speak of his travels. We love and will miss you Uncle Bruce. Jan

I lifted weights with Bruce Herold for over thirty years. Bruce was a remarkable weight lifter. Even more important Bruce was a wonderful human being. I will remember Bruce for his kindness and thoughtfulness. Bruce continued lifting even though his health had been in decline. Bruce never complained and his kindness was never ending. I feel fortunate to have been friends with such a truly good person. My sympathy goes out to his family and many friends.

What a shock!! I taught with Mary and lifted with Bruce many years ago. Unfortunately I had lost contact in recent years. In what is even a stranger twist my father is also in the O'Hesson Home.
Let me say Bruce was a great guy who encouraged me in the weightlifting and inspired many in the classroom. I only wished I had maintained contact.
Please accept my deepest sympathy.
