Dean Richard Vonada October 15, 1932 June 9, 2018 Dean Richard Vonada, 85, of Zion, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, the result of a severe fall from a farm tractor while visiting in Kokomo, Ind. He was born on October 15, 1932, near Hublersburg, he was the son of the late Charles N. and Cora Belle Fisher Vonada. At three months old he was adopted by his uncle and aunt, George E. and Ella N.Vonada, of Zion. He resided at this residence for his entire life. On November 29, 1952, he married Margaret A. Merryman, of Port Matilda. Margaret passed away on February 28, 2003. Dean was a 1951 graduate of Walker Township High School in Hublersburg. After high school, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Fish Commission. In 1953, he was drafted by the United States Army and served his country in Okinawa, Japan. He returned home in 1955, and for the next 35 years he worked as a Fish Culturist at the Pleasant Gap/Bellefonte Hatcheries. After his retirement in 1986, from the State of Pennsylvania, he was employed at ML Claster & Sons as a custodian for 10 years. Dean was an avid hunter from the time he was able to shoot. In 1979, he was a charter member of the Rock Run Lodge in Walker Township. He was also a part-time farmer of a 10-acre plot of ground beside his home. During his retirement years, he could always be found tinkering in the barn with equipment. He was a life member of the Walker Township Fire Company since 1956. He helped many years with the annual carnival held in Hublersburg to support the fire company. He was a Charter Member of the Zion United Church of Christ now called Zion Community Church. Dean is survived by his son and daughter, Leroy Vonada, of Zion, and Eileen Johns and her husband David Johns, of Kokomo, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Matthew Johns, Sarah (Joseph) Smith, Rachel Johns and Joseph Johns. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; adopted parents; and 12 siblings, Kenneth, Harvey, Velma, Orpha, C. Woodrow, Geraldine, Hubert, Fred, Freeman, Miriam, Lois and Faye. He was the last of his generation. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Howard. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Community Church, 3261 Zion Rd., Bellefonte with the Pastor Scott Brown and Pastor Charles Stump officiating.
