Jean (Duncan) Hawthorne December 18,1924 June 26, 2018 Born in Washington, Penna., Jean (Duncan) Hawthorne attended Penn State as a Home Economics major. In 1945, she married Glen Hawthorne. They had two daughters: Susan and Linda. The Hawthornes lived for several years in Western Pennsylvania and Ohio, moving back to State College in 1975. Jean had her pilot's license, was an accomplished down-hill skier, loved to garden and read. She volunteered over 4,000 hours at the Mount Nittany Hospital and was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church. Following Glen's death in 1998, she developed a love of art and art history. She was a docent at the Palmer Museum of Art and took over 30 Art History classes at Penn State. Her greatest joy was her growing family of seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Jean died after a short illness in Columbus, Ohio on June 26, 2018. She is survived by her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
