John J. (Capa) Aiello January 31, 1928 August 8, 2018 John J. (Capa) Aiello, age 90, formerly of 126 South Street, Ridgway, died Wednesday morning Aug. 8, 2018, at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 31, 1928, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Gennaro and Frances (Chirillo) Aiello. He married Genevieve M. (Gibby) Smith on Aug. 8, 1956, she preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2011. He resided in Ridgway for 62 years and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, a life member of the V.F.W., a life member of the Elks, a past PIAA District 9 Chairman, the organizer of the Elk County Holiday Basketball Tournament, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII. He had been employed by the Kersey and St. Marys School Districts as a teacher for over 40 years. He was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School and Lock Haven State Teachers College. He is survived by the following children: Gina M. Aiello, of Ridgway; John F. (Lisa) Aiello, of Ridgway; Lisa A. DeLeon, of Powell, Ohio; Diana L. Buehler, of Ridgway; and Daniel G. (Kim) Aiello, of State College; 11 grandchildren, Sarah, Mary, Patrick, Alan (Emmie), Rachel (Nathan), Dominic, Matthew, Maria, Sean, Michael and Anna; three great-grandchildren, Zechariah, Silas and Evelyn; three brothers, David (Sylvia) Aiello, of Treasure Lake; Robert (Rosa) Aiello, of Ridgway; and Ernest Aiello, of Ridgway; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Victor, Joseph, Anthony and Donald Aiello; and three sisters, Mary Caribardi, Eva Caribardi and Sr. John Francis. Funeral services for John J. Aiello will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home in Ridgway on Friday evening, Aug. 10, at 8 p.m. Father Justin P. Pino, Pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church, will be officiating. Burial will be at the St. Leo Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at 8 p.m. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Ridgway Public Library or to the Ridgway Ambulance Corp.
