Dr. Rodney (Turk) Alan Farrell Sr., Ph.D. May 10, 1950 June 8, 2018 Dr. Rodney "Turk" Alan Farrell, Sr., Ph.D., 68, of 12 Liberty Lane, Reedsville, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. Born May 10, 1950, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Morris R. and Betty J. (Fultz) Farrell. On March 28, 1970, he married Susan A. (Bearley) Farrell. Sue survives at their home. He is also survived by a son, Rodney A. Farrell, Jr.and wife Michelle, of Croydon; a daughter, Erin M. Farrell and partner Julie, of Williamsport; grandchildren, Veru G., Regan G. and Bella T. Farrell; siblings, Brenda Peightel and husband William, of Reedsville, and Jeffrey M. Farrell and wife Nanette, of Lewistown; as well as his step mother-in-law, Barbara Bearley, of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by his son Zachary C. Farrell on September 3, 2016. Rodney graduated in 1968, from Chief Logan High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict as a fire control technician. He was aboard the USS Newport News and the USS Steinaker. Rod obtained his BS from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his MS in Curriculum & Instruction and Ph.D. in Instructional Systems from Penn State University. His first job was with Beaver Brothers Bakery, then he was employed at American Viscose, Standard Steel, was the owner of the Belleville Hill Store from 1977-1985. He served as a teacher in the Mifflin County school district, and at Belleville Mennonite School. He was the technology program director for the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit and the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, was an adjunct professor at Philadelphia College of Textiles & Sciences, he was the curriculum coordinator at Central Intermediate Unit, was the supervisor and instructor of elementary pre-service teachers at Penn State and lastly, was the Assistant Professor of Educational Admin. and supervisor of educational admin. certification program at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Superintendent, Moderator, Elder, church council, ministerial team, missions board, newsletter editor, and various other committees. His former affiliations include: former member of PAECT, PASCD, PSDC, ISTE, ASCD, AECT, PASA, was the organizer and program chair for the Eastern PA Educational Computing conference, served on the board of directors for the Reedsville Youth Center, Valley View Haven & Retirement Community, Mifflin County Youth Board, and was the past president of the Big Valley Area Jaycees. Most recently, he was involved with the Sons of the American Revolution, Chief Logan Alumni, the Farrell Clan from Longford, Ireland, and Gideons International. He enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren, reading, traveling, gardening, fishing, and doing genealogy. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Maple Grove Mennonite Church with Pastor Alan Kauffman officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Birch Hill Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. Family will provide all flowers.
