HUGHEY, Charles Charles Moore Chuck Hughey, adored husband of Doris Newland Hughey, quietly slipped into the arms of our Lord and Savior on the evening of Thursday, May 1, 2008. Charles was born in Columbia, to Marvin M. Hughey and Sadie Hutchison Hughey. Charles was the Assistant Chief Engineer at the Polaris Missile Facility Atlantic. He was an Honor Graduate of the Citadel and taught Junior Physics and Calculus during his Senior year. He received his MBA from Central Michigan University. Although he had numerous awards and achievements, his greatest joy was his family. At the time of his death, his entire family was with him. He was preceded in death by his only son, Charles Newland Hughey. His survivors include two daughters, Debbie (Jim) Barbaree of Summerville and Cindy (Verne) Black of Meggett. Grandchildren are Chuck (Michelle) Jones, Catie (Steve) Michalski, Julie (Scott) Monahan, Karen Black, Edward M. Jones III, and Elizabeth M. Jones all of Summerville. His great grandchildren include his very first great granddaughter, Ansley Monahan, with whom he had a very special bond, Caleb Black, Ella Monahan, Reese Jones and Sophie Michalski, all of Summerville. Charles was the youngest of six children and is survived by a sister, Dorothy Fairchild and brother, Paul W. Hughey both of Columbia, also many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. John's Catholic School, Angel Fund, 3921 St. John's Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405.
