Ivey Murrell Cook Jr
March 5, 1922 - March 12, 2021
Charlotte, North Carolina - Ivey Murrell Cook Jr died peacefully at his home, surrounded by family. Born in Charlotte in 1922, he was the son of I M Cook Senior and Ella Mullen Cook.
Murrell was well known in and around Charlotte for his long career at Cook Truck Equipment (formerly Cook Body Co). His family and friends knew of his great love of flying and all things automotive. He was an active, long time member of the Antique Automobile Association (NC Hornets Nest Chapter) and the Tarheel Classic Thunderbird Club.
Murrell attended NCSU before enlisting in the Air Force in 1943 as a pilot. In 1960 he became Wing Commander of the NC Civil Air Patrol, a post that he thoroughly enjoyed and held until AF Retirement in 1976.
Murrell enjoyed 71 years of marriage to Katherine (Kitty); together they loved dancing, bridge, flying (both were pilots) and old cars. Surviving are daughters Linda Davis (Steve), Joy (Michael); sons Ivey (Valerie), Tom (Kasha); 6 Grandchildren and 1 Great-grandchild.
For the both of them: a Mass will be held at 12:30PM Fri April 9 at St James the Greater Catholic Church in Concord, and burial will be held at 11AM Sat May 22 at the family plot in Forest Lawn West, Charlotte. Online comments, photos and stories can be left at www.harrisburgfc.com.
