Henry "Monroe" Whitesides, Jr., Esq., 58, went to be with his Lord April 11, 2017. In his death, we lost a loving husband, father, extraordinary lawyer, and most importantly, a godly man. He will forever be missed.

He was the oldest son born April 3, 1959 in Gastonia of Henry Whitesides and the late Rose McLean Whitesides.

His love of the outdoors led him to earn the prestigious award of Eagles Scout as a teenager. Monroe graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from Campbell University.

After law school, he became an Assistant District Attorney in Mecklenburg County. After he left, he opened his own firm and became a board certified specialist in criminal law. He handled many prominent cases and was well known, respected, and liked by the Charlotte legal community. He was also the legal voice used on WBT talk radio. Most importantly he loved the Lord. He spent hours studying his Bible everyday. He was a member at Parkwood Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and Bible classes.

His survivors include his wife, Sandy M. Whitesides of Belmont; his children, Henry "Trey" Monroe Whitesides, III and Hannah Patricia Whitesides; father, Henry Whitesides, Sr. and wife, Susanne; brother, Lee McLean Whitesides and wife, Nancy of Marietta, GA; sister, Margaret Rose Elliott and husband Curtis of Charlotte; Mother and Father-in-law, James and Patricia Morton of Charleston, WV; and many step siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Parkwood Baptist Church with Reverends Jeff Long and David Belle Isle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A graveside service will be private for the family.
