James Kenneth Beck, 70, of Glendale Springs, NC passed away on May 11, 2018. Ken was born November 11, 1947 to the late James Cambron and Sadie Peeler Beck of Spencer, NC. A Viet Nam veteran, he served in the US Air Force as a flight engineer from 1969 until 1973. Ken graduated from North Rowan High School and from NC State in 1975 with a dual degree in textile engineering and chemistry. He would ultimately retire from Olin Chemicals.

Ken enjoyed all thing outdoors, especially the mountains. A former member of the Ski Bees Club of Charlotte, Ken enjoyed backpacking, SCUBA diving and sailing. He and Martha Rademacher were married in Maui in 2001 and moved to Ashe County in 2013. They enjoyed snow skiing, golf trips and visits to numerous international destinations. Ken and Martha were members of Myers Park Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by a son, Cambron Beck and his wife, Kelli of Cheraw, SC; daughter, Margaret Sprouse of Rock Hill, SC, and four grandchildren, Emily and Andy Beck and Preston and Jon Michael Sprouse.

A service to celebrate the life of Ken Beck will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday in the Chapel of Myers Park Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the parlor following the memorial service.
