Janie Reid Fowler "Jinks" Walpole (1923 - 2018)

Mrs. Walpole passed away Friday, June 8, 2018.

Mrs. Walpole, who made her home at the Carriage Club, was born May 26, 1923 in Edgefield, SC to Mary Victoria Reid Fowler and Grover Parsons Fowler of Hickory, NC. Educated in the Hickory city schools, she furthered her education graduating from Lenoir Rhyne College in 1944. She moved to Charlotte in 1948 and became secretary to R. E. O'Malley. In 1953, she married Albert H. Walpole, Jr.

Mrs. Walpole was active, and became President of the National Secretaries Assoc., until retiring to raise her two children. After her children were grown, she joined American TV Services, Inc. until retirement in 1988.

A founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, she was an active member for 60 years. She was also active in the Circle 6 Ministry and was presented with Life Membership of Presbyterian Women.

She is survived by her two children, Albert Geoffrey Walpole (Janet) and Mary Allison Walpole.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991. Her parents, two sisters, Minnie Lyerly of Hickory and Sarah Bradfield of Charlotte, and her brother, Grover Fowler, Jr. of Durham also preceded her in death.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 15th at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road in Charlotte. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. A committal service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory.
