John Wright Martin II (1947 - 2018)

Charlotte native and Davidson resident John Martin died on Friday, June 8 near his beloved Lake Norman.

John is survived by Judith Brady Martin, his loving wife of 42-plus years; proud son John Wright Martin III and his wife Whitney Wade Martin; two cherished grandsons, Hogan Wade Martin and Jones Brady Martin; and sister Janie Martin Crabtree. John was predeceased by his father James Edwin Martin Sr., mother Barbara Hogan Martin and brother James Edwin Martin Jr.

John was a 1969 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, the Naval ROTC program and a proud supporter of the Tar Heels. He graduated from Charlotte's Garinger High School in 1965 after growing up in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood.

Following time in the U.S. Navy as a supply officer aboard the U.S.S. Nashville and in Virginia Beach, John had a successful career in power transmission sales. After moving to Davidson in 1999, he and Judy enjoyed college-town life and were supporters of Davidson Wildcat basketball.

John earned the rank of Eagle Scout, was active as a scouting leader and in the church communities of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Charlotte and Davidson United Methodist Church.

A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 at Davidson United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be private.
