Laura Lee passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 7th with her family at her side.

She was born October 4, 1926 on her mother's 20th birthday. She was born to the late Frank A. McCleneghan, Sr. and Laura Spencer McCleneghan. It was often said that mother and daughter possessed a youthful outlook because they were both so young during mom's childhood. For many years we enjoyed celebrating both birthdays together.

Laura enjoyed life and all that came with it, especially the joys that came from being a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a grandmother, and Aunt Laura. She especially enjoyed trips to the beach or to the mountains where she would be surrounded by family.

She enjoyed walking, swimming, playing bridge, dancing, listening to music, and socializing with family and friends. She was a season ticket holder to the Charlotte Symphony for decades, and always looked forward to attending concerts with her buddies.

Laura was a native Charlottean, attending Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, graduating from Ward Belmont in Nashville, TN. She then attended Finch College in New York City. After working as a school secretary in Charlotte, she met her husband and true love of her life, Fitzhugh Lee (who she addressed as Bill) in 1954. They were married in December of that year and remained in Charlotte, raising two children and enjoying everything that came with the life of a mom and a wife. She enjoyed lifelong friendships, many of which extended back to her childhood years in Charlotte.

She is also preceeded in death by her husband, William Fitzhugh Lee and her brother, Frank A. McCleneghan, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Lee Spencer (Bill); son, Fitz (RoseAnn); and grandchildren, Carter Spencer, William Spencer, Ann Spencer Lee, and Fitzhugh Lee.

Laura has been a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Junior League of Charlotte, Mint Museum Auxillary, and the Charlotte Garden Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be sent to Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28207; or to the Charlotte Symphony, 128 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.

A Memorial Service celebrating Laura's life will take place Monday, August 13th, 2:00PM at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will greet friends at a reception at the church following the service.
