ODESSA, MO -- Mrs. Jenkins, 80, formerly of Mt. Holly, died on Friday, April 22, 2011 at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence. Memorial service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Castanea Presbyterian Church, Stanley NC. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Stanley, NC.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Maxine T. Jenkins Art Scholarship Fund in care of Andrew Jenkins, 5201 Texas Prairie Rd., Odessa, MO 64072.
Maxine Thompson was born on October 26, 1930 to Garland E. and Cora A. Shelby Thompson. Maxine married Cleaugh Amos "Jake' Jenkins, Jr. on April 16, 1952 in Mt. Holly, NC. Mrs. Jenkins resided in the Mt. Holly area and the Oakdale section of Charlotte while working at Delmar Studios in Matthews until 1973 at which time she relocated to Odessa, MO.
Mrs. Jenkins was a current member of the First Baptist church of Odessa, a member of Kids in Camouflage program at church, and a former member of the Castanea Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed art, painting, and was teaching an art class at the Senior Center in Odessa. Mrs. Jenkins had worked as a free-lance artist and as a graphic artist for Herf Jones in Shawnee Mission, KS.
Survivors include her children, Phyllis Martin and husband, Wes, Rock Hill, SC; Andy Jenkins and wife, Kathy, Odessa. There are 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandchild, Ellie Tomas Drake, III, a brother, Edward and sisters, Thelma Ceri and Mildred Thompson.
