Sally Cahill

photoSarah Anne Lawrence Cahill (1937 - 2013) passed away peacefully on October 23,2013 in Louisville Colorado, attended in hospice by her beloved daughters Susan and Beth Cahill. Sally was the devoted wife of the late Honorable Robert P. Cahill distinguished member of the Illinois Appellate court. They were married 49 years. She is survived by her daughters Kathryn Dickinson (Scott), Beth Cahill (Kevin Banks) and Susan Cahill (Scott Higgins). Her life in later years was devoted to her grandchildren Marie, Grace and Ava Dickinson, Sara, Leo, and Tessa Banks, Violet and Graham Higgins. She loved adventure, the opera, travel, and the humanities. She was eager share her love of art and music with her family and her friends. Sally taught high school English and History in the Chicago Public Schools for 25 years. She was a fine scholar and caring teacher who tried to instill in her students a love and understanding of English literature. Friends and family also knew her as expert in the intricacies Illinois politics and someone with a wry sense of humor. An avid gardener, her home on Lincolnwood drive was a delight to see, and much appreciated by her friends and neighbors. Sally was also an accomplished and prolific print artist. She created works of great complexity with a wonderful sense of humor. She was well regarded by her colleagues and fellow artists at the Evanston Arts Center print studio. She was a friend to many, and an inspiration. She will be missed. Her family extends deep gratitude to her neighbors on Lincolnwood Drive and to her caregivers for their kindness. She will be buried next to her husband and beloved granddaughter Marie on May 10th 2014 at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago (773 525 1105). She had no patience for bad weather, and would wish for all her friends and family to gather at Graceland to sing and pray together with the lilacs blooming.
