William Kann

iconWilliam J. Kann, age 88, passed away, November 11, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family & friends. Beloved husband of the late Lois M. nee Farr, married for 55 years; loving father of William (Maria), Heidi (James) Mjelde, Amy (William) Casey and John (Lori); dear grandfather of William, James, Melissa, Matthew, Hannah, Sarah, John, Michael and Matthew; fond brother of Joan Ewinger; also survived by brother & sister-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Born on Easter morning, Bill was a lifelong resident of Park Ridge and member of the First United Methodist Church. He earned Eagle Scout as a youth. A graduate of Maine Township High School, Purdue University undergraduate, and Drake University graduate. A Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. A mechanical engineer and lifelong tinkerer, Bill was on the team that designed the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear submarine. He worked on numerous energy projects and was awarded several patents in his 30+ years at Argonne National Laboratory. Volunteering throughout his life, Bill was involved in Washington School PTO, Boy Scouts, Park Ridge Baseball, and his church. Memorial Service Saturday, November 30, 2013, 10:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 418 W. Touhy Ave., Park Ridge.
