Elmer E. Prehm

1933 - 2014

Prehm, Elmer E. 81, of Elgin, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. He was born on September 7, 1933 in Bartlett, IL the son of Elmer and Iva (Glidden) Prehm. Elmer was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during the Korean War from 1951-1954; was a member of the Elgin American Legion Post #57. He worked in the plating/polishing industry until his retirement at the age of 65. Elmer was an avid Cubs fan with a true passion for fishing, and the stories that go along with it. Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia (Wegner) Prehm; their children, Michael, Theresa (Tom) Staehnke, Gary (Susan), Kenneth, Debbie (Jeff) Dieckman, Denise, and Maria (Paul) Cumpata; sisters, Dorothy Berger and Lorah Wetzel; grandchildren, Matthew (Andrea), Jennifer (Mike), Elizabeth, Rebecca, Jake, Madeline, Sarah, Josh, Katie, Jordan and Taylor; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Madison, Alyssa, Hannah and Brooke. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter-in-law, Sally. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial with honors will be at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Monday morning at the church from 9:15 a.m. until the time of mass.
