Independent insurance agent and beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, 66. Born in Toledo, Ohio, to Noel and Nancy O'Reilly, he was raised in Glenview. A National Merit Scholarship semifinalist while at Lake Forest Academy, he became a commercial truck driver and member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters before starting his insurance career with Met Life. In 1985, he started O'Reilly Insurance Agency in his Edgewater home and had an office for 20-plus years in Albany Park. Fully bilingual, he also did business as Seguros del Norte and specialized in serving the insurance needs of Chicago's Spanish-speaking residents under the slogan, "Le quitamos el misterio a los seguros." Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Nicholas (Trudy) O'Reilly, and stepdaughter, Juanita (Brian) Bauer. Survived by his wife, Elvia, nee Hernandez Santillan, son Kevin (Elizabeth Harding), grandson Lucas, stepchildren Rafael Serrato Jr., Luisa (James) Daniel and Jacob Serrato, niece Megan, and nine step-grandchildren. Memorial service: May 21, 11 a.m., Haben Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie.

I only had the pleasure of knowing Al for a couple of years as a marketing rep for one of his companies. He was always incredibly kind and always made me feel welcome. I enjoyed, and will miss greatly our talks. My heart goes out to the family of this great man.

Mary and I were stunned and deeply saddened to hear of Al's death. He was our Agent for as long as I can remember. I called his office a couple days ago to ask him a question, as I would often do, and heard the news. Our thoughts are with Elvia, Kevin, Elizabeth and the extended O'Reilly family in this difficult time. We will always be grateful for the good advice and service we received from Al.
