Charlina King Obituary
King, Charlina Age 87, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family. Charlina was born on May 18, 1927, in Itta Bena, Mississippi to Charles and Hattie Bradberry. Charlina married the love of her life, Booker T. King, Sr., on October 25, 1947, in Greenville, MS, and later moved to Gary, Indiana. To this union was born three children. She confessed her hope in Christ at an early age and was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church for over fifty years. After her children grew up and left home, Charlina obtained her GED and attended Indiana University Northwest for one year. Until her health failed, she loved to play bingo and was an avid bowler. Charlina was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Willie B. Bradberry, Charlie Bradberry, Holman Bradberry, and Emmit Bradberry; five sisters, Lousley Bradberry, Dorothy Turner, Archie Mae McMillian, Effie Mae Ellison, and Geneval Williams. Charlina is survived by her loving and devoted husband of sixty-six years, Booker T. King, Sr.; three children, Gloria J. (Rev. Eugene) Wilson of Gary, Indiana, Gwendolyn (Rev. G. Leroy) Thompson of South Bend, Indiana, and Booker T. (Rose) King, Jr. of Gary, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Toya (Harry) Smith, Ileana (Tamaris) Green, Nicole (Terrance) Newman, Jermael (Mayrena) King, Krystle King, Phillip Thompson, Brekell (Carl) Echols, and Erica Martin; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Maxey of Gary, Indiana, and Barbara Ann (Roosevelt) Walker of Maywood, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Luvenia Bradberry and Estella Nelson, both of Gary, Indiana, and Julia Reid of Spring Fall, VA; two brothers-in-law, Jimmie Williams of Greenville, MS, and Clarence Ellison of Compton, CA; and a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation Wednesday, May 28, 2014, 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. at Guy & Allen Funeral Home, 2959 W. 11th Ave. in Gary with family hour from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1301 W. 21st Ave. Pastor Charles L. Emery officiating. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
