William George "Bill" Benford Obituary
Benford, William George "Bill" Was born on December 5, 1938 in Gary, Indiana to William E. Benford and Bettie (Hart) Benford. He accepted Christ at an early age and throughout his youth was a member of Israel CME Church. In his later years, he was a faithful member of St. Timothy Community Church. Bill graduated Roosevelt High School in 1956. He continued his education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri and earned his BS in Education in 1966. He also served two years in the US Army. His career path later led to the pharmaceutical industry where he excelled as a sales representative for Smith Kline Beecham for many years until his retirement. In 1964, he was joined in holy matrimony to Rose (Wilson) Benford. Their union of 37 years was blessed with one child, Tracy Lynn (Benford) Price. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose (Wilson) Benford; parents, William and Bettie Benford; sister, Betty Jean (Benford) Mays; and two brothers-in-law, Alcee Courtney and Ronald Wilson. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Tracy (Barrye) Price and grandson, William Price of Fort Bragg, NC; four sisters, Carolyn Benford of Calumet City, IL, Darien Courtney of Gary, IN, Allegra Benford of East Chicago, IN, Sharon (Bruce) Landrum of Gary, IN; brother-in-law, Eddie (Faye) Wilson, Jr. of Gary, IN; four nieces, Carol (Clifton) Jorden of Gary, IN, Carrie (Michael) Cook of Atlanta, GA, Andrea Henderson of Gary, IN, and Melanie Courtney of Valparaiso, IN; four nephews, Kelvin Wilson of St. Louis, MO, Keith Wilson of Gary, IN, especially devoted nephew, Kevin (Donna) Benford of Valparaiso, IN, and Jason Landrum of Chicago, IL; as well as a host of other loving relatives and friends. He will be deeply missed and always remembered. Visitation Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. with family hour 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Avenue. Funeral service Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Community Church, 1600 W. 25th Avenue. Rev. Alfred Johnson officiating. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park Hobart, Indiana.
