Douglas Arthur Bodnovich Obituary
Douglas Arthur Bodnovich, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 in Sarasota, Florida, having moved there from Glenview, Illinois in 2016. He was 75. Doug was born in Muskegon, Michigan to John and Julia Bodnovich. He attended Muskegon Catholic Central and was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from the University of Notre Dame (BA) in 1965 and from Western Michigan University (MBA) in 1967. He then honorably served in the U.S. Army, stationed primarily in Germany. Doug enjoyed a more than 40-year career in the insurance industry, based mostly in the Chicago area and the last 15 years of which with Markel. He was well-respected by his colleagues for his broad knowledge of the industry. Though it was in Chicago where Doug met his wife of 40 years, Kristine, his career led his family to live in Weston, Connecticut and Scottsdale, Arizona. But Chicago was always "home" as he and Kristine raised their son and two daughters primarily in Northbrook and Glenview, Illinois. A lifelong Notre Dame football and sports fan, Doug faithfully attended football games each fall in South Bend, cheering on the Fighting Irish. Sparked by his time stationed abroad in the Army, he enjoyed international travel and could always be found with a book in hand, whether a paperback thriller or a volume on World War II history. Above all, he looked forward to visits with his children and grandchildren, whom he loved very much. He is survived by his wife, Kristine; son, John (Erin) Kensington, MD; daughters, Anne and Margaret, Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Lenore and Oona; sister, Jill (Mike) Mundt and nephew, Jordan (Muskegon, Michigan). A memorial mass will be held on September 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana. Donations may be made to the Doug Bodnovich Memorial Fund, Muskegon Catholic Education Foundation, 1851 Barclay, Muskegon, MI 49441. Online condolences may be made at www.gendronfuneralhome.com.
