Eric, we had brife conversations when we were prepering to deploy and when we were in country. In our brife conversations I could see that the comments below are so true. I wish I could have drank a few with you before we deployed. Brother from the depth of my heart thank you for your service and you will forever live in the hearts of the many left behind. Marines never die they live on in the minds and the hearts of the brothers still fighting the fight.

Eric, it is the eve of your 11-year angelversary and I cannot believe it has been that long.
I miss you so much and want you to know that Herb and I still continue your legacy with the Palmisano Care Package Project. We are proud to have shipped 3,555 care packages since May 2006 to your brothers in arms serving overseas in harms way.
We will keep going until we just cannot do it ourselves, or until all of our troops come home safely to their loved ones.
You are missed, loved, and will NEVER be forgotten, not as long as your Madre' is breathing on this earth.
Soar like the eagle we know you are son, see you soon.
Hugs and kisses....

Eric, Thank you for your service to our country. I have never met you but I feel like I know you looking at all the pictures that are on your website. You seem to have that Marine sense of humor that keeps us going in the most trying of situations. You are not with us here on earth but you and your family are still continuing the mission taking care of the troops. Thank you, Rest in Peace and Semper Fidelis

Thank you so much Eric for your service to our country. You gave the ultimate sacrifice and there is no way to say thank you for that especially when the sacrifice you gave was your life. My son (born in 1978 also) is serving in the USAF and has been in the Middle East for more deployments than I care to count. I pray that you will continue to watch over your family as you do now. God Bless you.

Hello son. Today you are celebrating your 37th birthday, and your tenth birthday in Heaven. To your Madre, it has only been a matter of minutes, not years, since you've been gone. My only comfort is knowing you are peace with God. I miss you so much, more on days like today..but always every day. I am going to Grandma and Grandpa's house to have a birthday dinner for you, and we will release birthday balloons to you off of their deck. I hope you get at least one of them. They will be sent with a LOT of love. I miss you son. Every second of every day. I miss you. Love, Madre'

Hello son,it's Mom. Here we are at 9 years now. I know there is no time in heaven but there certainly is on earth. And time really goes so slowly when I think about you and how long you have been gone. You know how much I love and miss you right? But did you also know that not one single minute of any given day goes by without me thinking about you? It's true. Your legacy lives on through our Care Package Project and I promise you son that as long as I am breathing on this earth, NO ONE will ever forget you, EVER.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Palmisano Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to troops in Afghanistan this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Eric A. Palmisano US Marine Lance Corporal. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Thank you for sending my son, Andrew Bortolini a care package to Afghanistan. He is from the Crystal Falls & Iron Mtn area. He is a part of the 144th Military Police "THE BLACKHATS". He was part of the '46th out of Cheboygan but his unit's deployment was cancelled. He and 9 of his units soldiers volunteered to go with the 144th out of Corunda Mi, which is downstate. They only had a 1 week notice but none batted an eye and swiftly made the trek below the bridge to depart. By you sending him a package, it shows the whole unit that there are supporters behind them. This is critical for positive moral and I wholeheartedly want to thank you. I have no doubt that Andrew shared the contents with as many as he could. Again, you put a smile on several faces and you should be proud of yourselves. Thanks from a military mom: Sue B.

To the family of Lance Cpl. Eric A. Palmisano:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office (info@fortsnellingmcf.org) and leave your name and contact information.

Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.

If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Respectfully,

Eric,
6 years has passed. I am sure you already know how everything is going down here, and how much we all miss you. Your mom and Herb have put 6 years of their pain into happiness and love for other troops and their families. That takes so much strength and devotion. And love. It's like they spread he love they have for you across everyone. I hope one day to learn that strength. They have taught me so much, and so have you. I couldn't miss you more and neither could they. Until we meet again, my old friend, never forget how much you're loved.

What a cool dude!!!
Today marks the 6 year "angelversary" of your journey to Heaven Eric. As Herb and I spend this day reflecting on your life, we can't help but to first and foremost thank you for your sacrifice for our Freedom. You are a true Hero and we love you so much. Days/weeks/months/years may fly by, but to your mom they will always be minutes...minutes of joy, love, happiness, memories and also pain. The pain of heartbreak is unbearable sometimes, but our faith pulls us through those times, and knowing that we will one day see you again most definitely keeps us going. So today we celebrate your life, your humor, your intelligence, your love and thoughtfulness and most of all your heart. You had the biggest heart of all...I will always love that about you. Please give our love to everyone with you in Heaven, and please know that you will live on in our hearts forever....

Until we meet again son,
All our love always,

Hello son, it's Mom. I am having some pretty rough days lately..you have been on my mind so much. Maybe it's because Herb is in Iraq now, finishing your mission, and I am home alone. But oh how I miss you so. I read a lot about how the spirits return to us in different ways - I see Eagles all the time and they remind me of you. I am praying so hard that you come to me in a dream or some other way that I would know it was you. Please son, could you do that for me? I love you and miss you so much.

Eric,
Happy birthday (a few hours early) Eric. Just talked to your momma. It is a hard time for everyone, but I know you are alright. We are taking it one day at a time. I will have a beer for you tomorrow and try to think about the good times instead of the sad ones. You were always better at that than me, but I will do my best. Miss you buddy.

I am hugging you back son, can you feel it?
Hello son, today we are driving to Chicago to visit with you for your birthday. I know you are not at that cemetery, but it is the closest I can get to you on this earth. I love you so much and am so very proud of you. I miss you son, I really miss you. My heart aches every day. 4 1/2 years later and it still seems like 2 weeks or less. The pain and the memories are so very fresh in my mind. I hope you have a wonderful, joyous birthday in Heaven. Do they celebrate birthdays in Heaven? Hugs right back to you son.

Hello son. Today is July 7th, only 10 more days until Herb returns home from Iraq. I dont need to tell you what he is doing or even WHY he is over there, you already know all of this. I just wanted to post this thank you for watching over him during his mission, and for guiding him down the roads he needed to travel, and for being his guardian angel every step of the way. He is so very proud of you Eric, as am I, and we are both praying for your soul every single day. I hope you are having a wonderful time in Heaven. Please say hello to your dad for me okay? Selling your name patches at our local Veterans Tribute Ride for Memorial Day 2010. God Bless our Troops!
Hello son. Your ole' ma has been having some pretty difficult, emotional days lately. These holidays always make it so much harder to accept the fact that you really are gone. But of course you KNOW how busy we have been with your Care Package Project, your newly formed and soon to be non-profit Foundation, your Scholarship Program, and LOTS of other ventures and memorials, all in your memory. You made my life so rewarding son, and now I want to show you my gratitude for you as my son as well as the best !#$%$%^& Marine the Corps ever knew! I love you son. Keep 'em smiling up there ok?

To the family of Lance Cpl. Eric A. Palmisano:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Memorial Day Sunday worship service at 11:00 a.m. on 30 May 2010. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the neighboring states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses to represent all of the wars in United States history and give honor to all who have served their country and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain Col. Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled “A Day of Remembrance.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. An honor guard squad will be on hand to fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the memorial garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception; weather permitting will be outside of the Chapel.

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (612/970-7866) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans’ name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (612/970-7866) or email (info@fortsnellingmcf.org) the office and leave your name and contact information.

Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Sat 29 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sun 30 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one’s cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.

If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Respectfully,
Leila Campbell

I did not know Eric. I read your story on CNN and was emotionally moved by what you have done in his memory. Eric and the other fallen soldiers, including my dad (at age 23, USArmy March 13, 1962), serve as an inspiration and reminder that our freedom to go about our daily lives and enjoy this wonderful land of God's comes with a high sacrifice just as Jesus sacrificed his life for us all.
God bless you and your family for your donations to the troops.

Dear Palmisano Family, We met today briefly at the Iron Mt. VA Hospital and you gave my husband, Bob, a photo pin of your son. I asked a few people here if they knew you and none did, so i looked up your name on the web. I am so sorry for your loss. Our son, Matt, is a purple heart vet of the Iraqi War and I know how close a bullet wound can come to the soul of a mom and dad and family. My heart goes out to you, as i know the many nights i prayed that Matt would come home. Please know this mother's heart is with you as a family as well as my husband, Bob, who has been hospitalized since Jan. 4, 2009, with a stroke which was military related with the 82nd Airborne. May the Lord keep us all close to His heart as we wait for His son's appearing and our days of suffering will be over on this earth. With sincere love, Bob and Caroline Marchant
