Gwendolyn Mollison-Douglas Obituary
Gwendolyn J. Mollison-Douglas Passed peacefully at her home of 17 years in the Leisure World Community in Silver Spring, Md. early Sunday, December 17, 2017. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1929, a graduate of Elmhurst College class of '51. A wonderful and extraordinary teacher in the Chicago School System for 39 years, in various grades within the gifted arts program. Beloved by many of her students, a proud recipient of the Golden Apple Award, and an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Elmhurst College. Gwen lived in Chicago and Oak Park, IL for many years and was known for her adventurous travels to many countries throughout her lifetime, even into her octogenarian years. Gwen was a trailblazer, lived an active healthy lifestyle and volunteered for many causes in her community. She enjoyed many artistic hobbies which brought her joy and praise from artisans and friends alike. She was predeceased by her sister, Janice Blackwell and former husband, Welbourne A. Mollison, Jr. Survived by her two sons Paul Mollison and Bret Mollison and former husband and friend Edgar C. Douglas, in addition to many of her former students and dear friends near and far. A memorial gathering will be planned in January 2018.
