Everyone knows what a great guy Jimmy was to be around, but not many know what a Great Public Servant he was. I once asked Jimmy why he stayed working in that very rough neighborhood. Without hesitation he looked right at me with a straight face and said " They need Policemen there". Rest in Peace my Friend

My sincere condolences for your loss. I worked with Jimmy way back in 93'-94' on 1011s beat. He was a true inspiration to me for his professionalism and dedication to true and honest police work. He was truly a cops cop. I am truly honored to have had the opportunity to work alongside Jimmy. Even though it was only for a short time. God bless Jimmy and may he rest in peace.

Although I had only known Jimmy for a few years in that time we had become good friends. We had some of the most interesting discussions about some of the strangest things. He truly taught me things about radio that no else ever did. I will miss his stories and tales of his adventures in life. Heaven has a new net controller. 73 my friend!

Kathy and friends. I am filled with deep sadness over the loss of Jimmy. And yet, all I can do now is remember the really great things about him that make me smile. I knew him mostly as a volunteer ham radio operator for the Chicago Marathon. In that role, he always came prepared with too many radios (can we have too many radio? He bailed me out several times!!). He always carried a terrific smile and willing attitude. His pledge to serve...really to do whatever was necessary... helped me better understand what kind of Chicago Policeman he must have been. I will miss his incredible stories and his passion for his diverse interests in science, technology, history, radio, weather and family. Thank you for those fabulous pictures that tell the story of his life. My life is much richer for having worked with Jimmy. He example continues to inspire me. Jimmy's wry smile will always remind me to work hard but to laugh more.

We have all lost a dear friend,

Kathy and All, I just looked at all the photos in your Jimmy's site here and he had the happiest face in Chicago, didn't he? Always with a smile and ready to laugh, even when he was doing his 1011 gig. I'm sorry his life ended so young and sorry for your loss. All I can offer you is a remembrance in my prayers from WI, and may Jimmy know God's peace and everlasting presence now.

Kathy, my heart felt condolences and sympathy to you in this time of your great grief. Jimmy was, no, Jimmy is truly a wonderful, beautiful person, and one outstanding and dedicated police officer. He will be missed by many, and will be missed by me. A kind and good friend. A kind and good person, who is now patrolling the bricks of gold above and standing watch at those pearly gates. I will remember his laugh and smile, and that wry sense of humor that always found light even in the darkest of time. Jimmy you will always be remembered!! Jimmy you will forever be a founding spirit of the CPD class of 82-4A (Animals) -- Kelvin Blanks
