John Rutherford Scott Obituary
John "Jack" Rutherford Scott, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 22, 2018. Born March 13, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pa., Jack was the son of Rutherford and Sara Scott. He spent the first 10 years of his life in Pittsburgh and in 1940, moved with his family to Bowling Green, Ohio. He earned his undergraduate degree from Oberlin College and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He served in the military for two years during the Korean War. After working for Continental Can for several years, he enjoyed a long career in financial services working in sales and management for Merrill Lynch and Smith Barney. During his tenure in the industry he also served as an arbitrator for the National Association of Security Dealers. Throughout his career, he and his family had the opportunity to live in several cities including Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Atlanta, San Francisco and Chicago. In 1956, Jack married his beloved wife, Sarah "Sallie". In recent years, Jack and Sallie lived in Northfield, Ill. during the summer months and Naples, Fla. during the winter months. Jack loved being with his family and especially enjoyed family meals when he had an audience for his sense of humor. Jack loved music and sang in the church choir for many years. He loved a good joke and always had a smile on his face. There wasn't anyone he did not enjoy meeting and getting to know. He genuinely enjoyed people from every walk of life. Jack was preceded in death by his son, John "Jay" Heindel Scott. He is survived by his wife Sallie; his sister Sara (Ben) Lancashire of Austin, Texas; two daughters Alice (Tom) Uehling of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Priscilla Scott of Winnetka, Ill.; five grandchildren, Sarah (Andrew) Boerkicher , Ellen (Tom) Pappas, Charlie Drake, George Uehling, and Henry Uehling; two great-grandchildren Annabel Boerkicher and John Harold Boerkicher. Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Kenilworth Union Church Music Ministries, 211 Kenilworth Avenue, Kenilworth, IL 60043.
