Joseph Vijuk Obituary
Mr. Joseph "Joe" Michael Vijuk, age 68, of Chicago, IL and Amelia Island, FL passed away at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday evening, July 2, 2014. Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, he was the youngest of three children born to the late Michael and Branka Barbir Vijuk. As a young child, his family escaped Yugoslavia making their way by boat to Italy and eventually to Canada. Mr. Vijuk grew up in Windsor, Ontario where he excelled in sports. He played college football at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI and was a two time All-American selection. Mr. Vijuk earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Hillsdale College. He went on to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for several seasons with the Ottawa Rough Riders and Toronto Argonauts. After completing his career in the CFL, he started a family business with his father, Vijuk Equipment Inc., which was headquartered in Elmhurst, IL. Mr. Vijuk continued to grow the family business into an international company while being granted over forty patents for personal inventions. In 1992 in Chicago, he met Drenda Lee Brock who became his wife in July of 1994. The newlyweds made their home in Chicago, but spent a considerable amount of time on Amelia Island after purchasing a home on the Island during their honeymoon. In 2012, Mr. Vijuk sold Vijuk Equipment, Inc. in Elmhurst, IL after 40 successful years in the graphic arts industry. Mr. Vijuk went on to create JMV Industries, LLC of Amelia Island acquiring and managing commercial real estate. He remained President and CEO of JMV Industries, LLC on Amelia Island until his passing. He belonged to the Serbian Orthodox Christian Church all of his life. Mr. Vijuk leaves behind his wife Drenda Lee Vijuk, a nephew and two nieces. Mr. Vijuk had a profound impact on the people that were lucky enough to share his life. Memorial services in Fernandina Beach will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard Funeral Home. Other memorial services will be held at a later date in Chicago, IL. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, at the funeral home, from 3:00 pm until the hour of service.
