Leah Westerman Obituary
Leah Westerman (nee Jacobs) had a good long life. Born in Mitchell, South Dakota, she was the granddaughter of state pioneers who had settled there in the 1880s. Her father, Hiram Jacobs, was from New York and her mother, Carola Strauss, was from Aberdeen, South Dakota.Leah, and her sister Ann (Silverman), lived in Minneapolis before moving to Hyde Park in Chicago with their widowed father in the late 1930s. There Leah met and married her loving husband of 50 years, George H. Westerman. From Hyde Park they moved to Winnetka where they were residents for close to 60 years.Leah and George had three children: Jim (Trudy), Carol Westerman and Mary Westerman Bulgarella (Eugenio). They were grandparents to Elena Bulgarella. The family and friends of Leah would like to remember her as a loving mother, aunt and grandmother, devoted wife, an avid golfer (acclaimed hole-in-one on the Winnetka Par 3 course), bridge player, generous volunteer, a role model and a dear friend to so many. She lived a life of independence and even to the very end did things her way. Her final words before she peacefully slipped away: "Come on¿Let's go! "She will be missed. A celebration of Leah's life will be held on her 102nd birthday, Sunday, January 14, 2017, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Meadowlake Club House, 6060 Arbor Lane, Northfield, IL 60093.Memorial donations may be made to, Journey Care 2050 Claire Court Glenview, IL 60025 or North Shore Senior Center 161 Northfield Road Northfield, IL 60093.
