LUCIA UIHLEIN Obituary

Lucia Ellis Uihlein, of Longboat Key, FL, formerly of Lake Bluff, IL, died Feb. 29, 2012. She was 94-years-old. Born in Kansas City, MO,she was raised in Washington D.C. and spent her childhood summers on the family farm in Lee's Summit, MO. In 1941, she married Edgar J. Uihlein Jr. of Chicago, IL. After the war, they moved to Lake Bluff, IL where they raised their five children. Lucia enjoyed volunteering and serving on the boards of numerous Chicago charitable and cultural institutions. Travel was a passion of hers and many a summer was spent abroad with family in tow. An avid and competitive tennis player, she continued to play well into her eighties. Her greatest joy was her family. Nothing gave her more happiness than having her family gathered around her. She was loved for her charm, ready laugh, spunk and lively wit. Lucia was preceded in death by her beloved Ed. She is survived by her five children, Edgar III (Lois), Richard (Liz), Sally Rauch (George), Stephen (Alessandra) and Lucia; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in April at Christ Church of Longboat Key. Memorial donations would be gratefully received by Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 or Christ Church of Longboat Key, 6400 Gulf of Mexico Dr., Longboat Key, FL 34228.
