Maida Koenigsberg Obituary
Educator and pianist, Maida Koenigsberg taught English, vocal music, and journalism in junior and senior high schools for 26 years, 17 in Chicago. She specialized in teaching both slow learners and the gifted. After leaving Chicago public schools in 1969 she focused on training student teachers at various Chicago universities including DePaul, Loyola, and Northwestern. Maida earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan and did postgraduate work at Columbia University, Juilliard, Chicago Teachers College, Northwestern, and others, studying music and English education. Born in Jackson, Michigan, May 26, 1919, she relocated to Chicago after her studies in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Maida died December 25, 2017 at age 98. She was predeceased by her parents, Sophia (Rosenberg) and Abraham Paul Cohan, and her husband, Lester H. Koenigsberg, former Chicago attorney. She is survived by cousins. In recent years she was attended by valued caregivers and visited often by Delphine Keinigsberg. Maida led Women of Mitzpah, an organization promoting the preservation of a Jewish way of life for families of members. She was also active with the National Council of Jewish Women. Her burial was attended by family at Zion Gardens Cemetery in Chicago. Arrangements by Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home. Information 847-256-5700.
