Melinda Polus Obituary
Melinda L. Polus, nee Moonahan, age 69, of Chicago slipped away from us in the early morning of Christmas Day 2017 when she succumbed to that demon, cancer. Treasured wife for 48 years of Nicholas Polus, loving mother of O'Casey Polus (Sandra) and Timothy Alexander (Bindu), devoted grandmother of Amanda Ott, Nathaniel Polus, Devin Alexander, Owen Alexander, Asha Alexander and beloved sister to Nancy Black of Phoenix, AZ. Melinda had an extraordinary capacity for love and shared it freely with friends and associates. Truly, to know her was to love her. An early education teacher with extraordinary gifts she served the children and parents of Park West Cooperative Nursery School for more than 35 years and was a mentor and champion to many younger teachers. Melinda was also an award-winning actress who graced Chicago and suburban stages for 50 years. Her remarkable talents were refined at the Goodman School of Drama, School of the Art Institute in Chicago in the 1960's where she met her husband, Nicholas, also an actor. They were fortunate to share the stage many times over the years. Melinda was one of those rare people who left an indelible mark on everyone she touched. Kind, compassionate and without artifice she was an authentic person of the highest order. The world is a better place for her having been here and a much lonelier place without her. Despite her outgoing nature, Melinda was a very private person and at her request there will be no wake or funeral. Our family will have a private remembrance in the spring. A donation to the in Melinda's honor would be much appreciated. www.cancer.org
