I am very sad to learn of Don’s passing. He was the best dissertation advisor possible. I had very much hoped that he would be able to read my book as he had such a large role in its development. It is a beautiful family he leaves behind.

Don was a tremendous inspiration to myself and other members of the entering Doctor of Ministry class at the Divinity School in 1966. He took over leadership of the program immediately after Dr. Robert Spike's death. He was an excellent personal counselor as well as an inspirational and original thinker in theology, psychology and other fields. I last saw him in February of this year. He is missed.

On behalf of my Fortress Press colleagues and myself, I want to express our sadness at learning of Don's death. He and his work have been a great gift to the whole array of disciplines that inform the life and work of the church for a generation. He has also been a wonderful colleague who made signal contributions to the fields of pastoral care, psychology of religion, fundamental theology, and social ethics. We are grateful for all his work, but I have to say that his latest volume wonderfully attempts to pull it all together and to really think through how honest intellectual work can help in the transformation of individuals and society and even the planet. Go well, Don--we'll be wrestling with your work for many years!

I knew Don Browning through his books ---he was an excellent pastoral theologican and analysst of American religious institutions. He was an inspiration to so many of us! I had an instructor in graduate school who got up every mroning at 4 AM to read and re-read Professor Browning's works. For the past few weeks I have been re-reading "Fundamentals of Practical Theology" ---not at 4 AM, but at times when I can slowly savor and reflect on every paragraph. I hope the Browning family knows taht he will live on in teh hearts and work of many, many others who have grown through his insight. May the Source of All Compassion comfort all of us who mourn his passing.

I am saddened to hear of Don's death. He was a great inspiration to me over many years of professional acquaintance. May God grant you comfort as you grieve, even as you acknowledge his passing into greater Glory.

Don and his work have been an inspiration for me for the last 10 years, and will continue to be so for many generations, I'm sure. I was lucky enough to hear him speak at my school and meet him 5-6 years ago, and was shocked to hear of his passing. May the God of all comfort be with his family, friends, and students.

I am much saddened by Don's death. I had hoped for a long, and undoubtedly productive, "retirement" for him, as well as lots of time for him to enjoy the family he loved so much. His help to me, as to all his advisees, has been incalculable. My thoughts and prayers are with his family now.
