Richard Seidel Obituary
Richard Seidel, Historiographer and Archivist for the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago (1990-2013) and consulting archivist for the Chicago Board of Education (2001-2012), died on the evening of March 25, 2013. Trained as a librarian at Rutgers University and earning a M.A. in Theology at Seabury Western School of Theology, he was Acquisitions Librarian, University of Illinois at Chicago (1966-71), Technical Services Librarian, The Newberry Library (1971-1990), Research Associate, Jane Addams Papers (19995-2009), Archivist (part-time) Richard Nickel Committee (photographic archive), 2003-06. He was secretary-treasurer of The Caxton Club, Chicago, 1970-87, Senior Warden of St. Peter's (Episcopal) Church (1985-1992), and served on diocesan-wide commissions and the Diocesan Council. He was treasurer of CARA and was a devoted parishioner at the Episcopal Church of Saint Elizabeth and Santa Teresa de Avila, Chicago. Cremation and transport to Christ Episcopal Church, Toms River, New Jersey, was arranged by Lakeview Funeral Home, West Belmont Avenue, Chicago. He is survived by a brother, Barry Seidel, and nephews Paul and Ian. A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m., April 12, 2013, at the Saint James (Episcopal) Cathedral, 65 E. Huron, reception in Burrill Hall to follow.
